Claim Your Knowing: An Appeal to People of the Heart


What I’ve realized in this time of birthing Mirari: The Way of the Marys, is that I need to reach out more to the heart people. I see the need for the tender hearts to accept their way, and their yet unseen power. To feel respectful of our way is tremendously important. And that respect has to come from us first.

Encouragement for Tender Hearts

I want to encourage you tender hearts who have been validated by A Course of Love, to own your wisdom newly now. I know that you, like me, have still had to struggle for it to be accepted, not only in an insane world, but in the sane world of the thinking mind and in spiritual groups. This is not only a need to share from the heart. It is a need to share in a new way—the very way we’re asked to move into, and where we meet—resistance. Some feel “the new way” can wait. It can wait until we are done learning, as if we all must be A Course of Love scholars before this time can come to be. Or, that we must be fully in some ideal state before we can enter dialogue or create with all our passion. Before we can be passionate people again.

We’ve got to forget all that now. We forget the old to move into the new and this is what has been happening to me. And before I get diagnosed with some memory disorder, I need to get the word out—because I am forgetting—and I am becoming incapable of relying on the old ways of doing things. 

My heart knows it “all” serves a purpose . . . the forgetting as much as the remembering. My heart’s memory tells me that it is us, we tendered hearted ones, who are those who are going to usher in the new time, and I believe there are many who know, somewhere inside, that this is true. . . but have not had it validated. 

Let me validate the power of the tender heart for you.

A Course of Love, and Mirari: The Way of the Marys, and probably every work that’s come in the name of our Holy Ones, has come to awaken us to an inner knowing that what is needed now, rests at the heart of us. This knowing, “already there,” was not meant to fall asleep, go catatonic, or be supplanted by the mind. 

We could start with “Be like the little children” and stay with that and we’d have a blessed philosophy for life. “Get out of your head and into your heart” is another way to say it. But I’m speaking today to those who are already in their hearts, who always knew themselves to be people of the heart, and who often felt discounted due to it. I want to tell you how imperative it is that you claim your knowing. 

Jesus speaks of this “claiming” in ACOL. He says it in the prelude and continues to speak of it through the final days of The Dialogues. I want to share this with you and encourage you to see how crucial it is that we each claim our hearts wisdom, and with it our power to create The New.

I’d also like to ask you to re-read the introduction to A Course of Love and tell you that it didn’t come until several years after ACOL was complete and my own tender heart had been battered by the logic of the mind. This is how I know it was given specifically for us. It is ours to claim. The introduction ends like this: “This is a course for the heart. The birthplace of the new.”


This is part of the reason for my passion about the way of Mary: inviting the feminine wisdom ways to rise and temper the ways of the masculine that have ruled. To do this, we must acknowledge and accept the power of our own hearts’ ways. I am doing this, in part, by self-publishing Mirari: The Way of the Marys. I am claiming my ownership, my relationship, and my union. And asking you to claim yours. In A Course of Love we are asked to claim dozens of times:


Claim your divine nature 

Claim your birthright

Claim your power

Claim your soul

Claim unity

Claim your personal self

Claim your inheritance, your gifts, your Self

Claim your new identity

Claim your authority

Claim your freedom

Claim your true inheritance: claim it in form and time.


Jesus spoke of this from the very beginning, where in the Prelude I heard:


You claim your human nature and reject your divine nature. What is this rejection but rejection of your Self? What is this rejection but fear masquerading as humility? What is this rejection but rejection of God? What is this but a rejection of miracles? P.11-12


In Chapter 7, what we allow the world to claim of us, and the line we won’t cross are spoken of:


The harsh realities of the world may claim your body and your time, but this one piece of yourself that you have set aside you allow it not to claim. This piece is held within your heart, and it is this piece with which we now will work.


7.6 This is the piece that screams never to that which would beat you down. Life is seen as a constant taking away and this, you claim, will never be taken from you. For those whose lives are threatened, it is called the will to live. For those whose identity is threatened, it is called the cry of the individual. For others it is the call to create, and for still others the call to love. Some will not give up hope to cynicism. Others label it ethics, morals, values, and say this is the line I will never cross. It is the cry that says, “I will not sell my soul.”


7.7 Rejoice that there is something in this world that you will not bargain with, something you hold sacrosanct. This is your Self. Yet this Self that you hold so dear that you will never let it go is precisely what you must be willing to freely give away. This is the only Self that holds the light of who you are in truth, the Self that is joined with the Christ in you.


7.8 To this Self is this appeal put forth. Let it be heard and held within your heart. Hold it joyously alongside what already occupies your heart—the love you set aside and the piece of yourself that you won’t let go. As you learn that what you give you will receive in truth, you will see that what abides within your heart is all that is worthy of your giving and all you would receive.


Yet many of us have been discouraged from our heart’s knowing. The thinking mind is still so predominant . . . as is the masculine way. This is why Mary of Nazareth has come forward now, in Mirari: The Way of the Marys. “Mirari” is about uniting the feminine and masculine in ourselves . . . and about the wonder that will arise from this and save the heart of the world.


We, of tender hearts, must begin to claim our heart’s knowing, and our power.


In the Course Chapter 16, Jesus calls us each to claim our power:


Power is possessed by those who claim it. By those who cry I am. For the beginning of power comes from the rejection of powerlessness. The rejection of powerlessness is but a step toward your identity achieved through the awakening of love of Self. (C:16.21)


16.22 What misery the world has suffered in the name of judgment, power, and justice. What misery can be avoided by finding the true power inherent in your identity. For you are not powerless. Those of you who think you have traditional means of power on your side turn not to your own power, and then you wonder why those most spiritual, both currently and historically, seem to suffer hardship. Yet it is often only those who suffer hardship who will rise up and claim the power that is their own instead of looking for it elsewhere. Your perception but looks at power backward and wonders why God has forsaken a people who seem to be so godly.


16.23 God forsakes no people, but people forsake God when they give away their power and claim not their birthright. Your birthright is simply the right to be who you are, and there is nothing in the world that has the power to take this right from you. The only way you lose it is by giving it away. And this you do.


In Treatise 2, I heard:


What is required to claim your power is the willingness to move through the conflict of two opposing sets of thoughts and feelings to the place of unity. T2:4.9


This is much the same as the feminine and masculine unity that Holy Mary is calling for. It is a different way of saying it, but it is an extremely important way of saying it. In the past year, the dominance of powerful male egos has made this crystal clear.


In the Third Treatise:


1.1 . . . Previously, the personal self that you presented to others represented an ego-self who you believed yourself to be. Now the ego has been separated from the personal self so that you may claim your personal self again and present to others a true representation of who you are.


In Chapter 2, a longer description of claiming and its relationship to the end of learning is provided:


2.5 An example of a pattern whose design was perfect for the desired end is that of formal education. Education has a natural endpoint. When the education of a doctor, teacher, scientist, priest, or engineer is completed, it is time for the student to claim a new identity—that of doctor, teacher, scientist, priest or engineer—and to begin to live that new identity. To continue to feel a need to learn rather than realizing that the time of learning has come to an end, would be to not realize completion


2.6 In the example used here, an example that illustrates only one aspect of the learner’s life, an inability to claim the new identity could at times be acceptable and even appropriate. In regard to the learning that you have now completed, learning that has revealed the true nature of who you are, your inability to realize your completion and claim your new identity cannot be seen as acceptable or appropriate. 


2.7 This is not a judgment but simply the truth. . . .


In the next verse, the crucial nature of this realization is stated clearly:


2.8 If you do not realize that you have learned all that you need to learn, you will retain the consciousness of the separated self rather than sustaining Christ-consciousness.


It may have taken me twenty years to publicly claim what I have received, but I am claiming it now. I invite those heart people who may have not as yet come forward, to do so, and I extend a sincere invite to those younger women and men who will join us to bring in the new future.


Letting go of what your mind would tell you in favor of what your heart already knows is but the purpose of this Course. C:16.11


The world needs what our hearts already know – FROM ALL OF US.


From The Dialogues


D:4.23 . . . You cannot deny the old and remain in the prison of the old. You have asked, and because you have asked I am telling you, that the permission you seek must come from your own heart. Once again I remind you that there is no authority to whom you can turn. But in place of that “outside” authority, I give you your own authority, an authority you must claim in order for it to be your own. An authority you must claim before your externally structured life can become an internally structured life.


4.27 Do you not see that you must begin with yourself? That if you are unwilling to claim your freedom it will not claim you? 


4.28 What is one, or in union with all, draws from the well of divine design. You need not turn to old patterns or systems to accomplish your release. You can only turn to what is, to what is left now that the patterns and systems of learning are no longer.


Well, of course those patterns are still there – but they aren’t “for us” any longer. Not for us female, or male, heart people. Our yearning for union is “wholehearted desire.”


11.4 You “receive” and you “give” from the well of the spirit. You need not prepare or plan, you need only to claim your inheritance, your gifts, your Self.


In Chapter 17.3 we are asked

Do you wholeheartedly desire to follow me to your true inheritance? To come after me and be as I was? To be the inheritor of the gifts that are ours? Do you desire this? Are you willing to claim it? Are you willing to claim it in form and time? We have reached the time, once again, for you to claim your identity. 


17.4 Can you understand that what you claim in form and time was always yours?


We, who have tender hearts, are those who know how to embrace in love and belonging, who know how important it is, and yet who have been denied so often that we may not see the wisdom in our way. We may only see how often our heart’s knowing is obscured or discounted in favor of “learned” wisdom. But we will rise to share our way, and will not forget how to embrace those who come slowly to love’s knowing. We have been made ready to do so.


This is part of the aim of Mirari: The Way of the Marys: Inviting us “all” to claim the feminine wisdom ways so they may rise and temper the ways of the masculine that have ruled. To do this, we must acknowledge, accept, and claim the power of our own hearts’ clarity and brilliance. We have to let our hearts shine.


“Our Self-Fullness,” as it was spoken in Day 38.14, “comes only from love, which is the source and substance of who we are being.” It is also the source and substance of what we need to bring forward. Mary and Jesus both assure us we are ready. Here are Jesus’ final words on this:


38.9 You are ready now to return to this ownership, this possession of relationship and union. 


38.10 Being in relationship and union . . . means a love deeper than any love you have known, for in not owning and possessing, in not being owned and possessed by, and in, union and relationship, you have not fully known love. To claim something as your own is simply to claim possession for your own Self. Now it is time to see me as your own God as well as God of all. Now it is time to call me who I Am.


38.13 Who I Am to you, and who you are to me, is all that matters. Our relationship can only be thus in union and relationship with each other because we are in union and relationship with each other. We are not two beings who are separate but relating in union. We are each other’s own being. We are one and we are many. We are the same and we are different. In “own”-ership we are full of one another’s own being. We are each other’s own. 


Mirari: The Way of the Marys, invites us all, women and men, feminine and masculine, to let all of who we are rise and join in union. This is the way we were called to in A Course of Love, and that is predicted as The Way of Mary. It is spoken of in Day 17 as Jesus shares with us the Fulfillment of the Way of Jesus: 


Christ-consciousness is . . . both the feminine and masculine, the “identity” of God, or in other words, the All of All given an identity. Day:17.2


The way of Mary represented incarnation through relationship, demonstrating the truth of union, the birth of form, and the ascension of the body. Day:17.10


From Mirari: The Way of the Marys:


“Invite all to rise with you in love for love’s sake. For love’s sake, rise to end the suffering of the human condition. Rise to end racism, injustice, abuse, torture, and war. Rise to end the lack that does not need to be. Rise along with time to call on time’s ability to heal all wounds, to provide for all. Rise to meet the consciousness of Mother Earth and the love of “this time” and “this place.” Seek no more for what will be. Love into existence what Is. 


Speak your own words of love. Raise your voice to love. Love All.”
